Director of Operations
Orombi Gladies came to Gulu from Western Nile to study Public Administration and Management but stayed because she met her husband. She not only has her bachelor’s, but also a certificate in guidance and counseling and another in conflict management.
She feels her role as Director of Operations at Elephante fits her well because she is a good team player, patient, understanding, and takes the time to get to know people on an individual basis. She holds a respect for every one of the staff, no matter who they are or where they come from.
She loves working at Elephante because of how the staff is treated. She feels everyone’s best interest is at the heart of decisions made. She likes that she is able to contribute new ideas, new ways of doing things. On top of working here, in five years, she would like to see herself owning rental properties, mostly for security, “in case something happens to the economy.”
If there is something Gladies wants to be known for it is, “imparting the wisdom I have to the community so they can be independent.” She feels there is a cycle of dependency that was created by the LRA insurgency and wants to see things change socially, economically, and politically. “Everyone has been affected in different ways. The most vulnerable are not getting the help they need.”
She is proud to be Ugandan because here, “it is a beautiful and simple life. We take care of each other, and that makes you feel loved.”
